Reducing Carbon Emissions

Ashburn Clinic has recently been presented with an award for reducing our carbon emissions by 1,831 tonnes since converting to heating our campus with wood. Our emissions reduction was calculated by our woodchip supply company, Lumbr, using EECA calculators.

Ashburn moved away from LPG heating in January 2013.

This reduction is broadly the equivalent to offsetting the annual emissions of:

  • 398 vehicles
  • 221 homes in New Zealand, or
  • 6,500 New Zealand dairy cows.

Lumbr’s mission is to deliver large savings to New Zealand businesses by offering a “credible and sustainable alternative to fossil fuel-fired heating systems”, using wood sourced from sustainably harvested forests in Otago.
