Ashburn Clinic is a Teaching Hospital

As part of our core purpose and Charitable Trust status, Ashburn Clinic is committed to both education and research. We are a teaching hospital, offering placements for students across a range of disciplines, as well as specialist training for psychiatrists and psychotherapists. Educational seminars and workshops also form a regular part of our contribution to the broader community.

At any one time, multiple students from different professional backgrounds are actively involved within our clinical teams. Their curiosity and energy enrich our work and reflect the value of fostering the next generation of mental health professionals.

Our monthly Monday luncheon seminar series has featured numerous engaging speakers and continues to draw strong attendance. With ongoing support from the James Hume Bequest Fund, we have been able to purchase audiovisual equipment, allowing us to have several of these seminars available to view online.

In addition, our Advanced Training in Psychotherapy modular series remains a cornerstone of our education programme, currently running on Tuesday evenings and well supported by participants.

Looking to the future, Ashburn has strengthened its research focus. In conjunction with the University of Otago’s Department of Psychological Medicine, we are continuing necessary research into the outcomes of our Democratic Therapeutic Community treatment following patient discharge.

These projects are vital for shaping Ashburn’s future direction. They provide an objective evaluation of the effectiveness of our treatment model across a wide range of patient experiences, while also offering assurance to our stakeholders – including tangata whaiora, whānau, community, funders, and referrers – that their trust and investment in us are well-placed.
